Unfoolproof guide to organizing a (successful or unsuccessful) Graphic Design department party

Throwing a party is an essential tool for any graphic design student. Partying releases stress and helps to be more productive in the long run. However, as anyone who has ventured into the world of event planning knows, the journey is often fraught with unexpected twists and turns. In this unfoolproof guide, we will navigate the complex landscape of party organization, highlighting the key elements that can lead to either a spectacularly successful gathering or a hilariously chaotic affair. This guide is meant to be used as a reference, not as the only correct way.

All the Necessary Steps

1. Opening the Wall

The process of opening a wall, though seemingly straightforward, involves a number of deliberate steps that, when considered in their entirety, reveal a surprisingly intricate task. To “open” a wall means to transform it from its natural state of solid, continuous structure into something that permits passage or visibility through it. This requires identifying the most suitable section for modification and determining whether any load-bearing components must be carefully avoided to prevent compromising the structural integrity of the building.

Once these preliminary considerations have been addressed, the actual act of opening the wall involves the careful and often methodical way of folding up the wall.. Through this effort, the wall transitions from an obstacle of separation into a gateway for light, air, or movement, fulfilling the intended goal of creating an opening where previously none existed.

2. Cleaning the Studio

Get a few friends and put on some good music, get rid of everything that shouldn’t be where it’s currently sitting at and enjoy the process of ending up with a tidy room.

2.1 The Floor

Mop up. Go ahead. You know you want to. Just do it. Come on.

2.2 Random bottles and packagings

Although it's frowned upon, people still leave random stuff they drank, ate or used everywhere across the studio so it's probably best to get rid of it.

3. Shopping for Snacks and Drinks

You’ll never know the exact amounts you’ll need anyway so just wing it. You can always go back for some more.

3.1 People's favorites

3.1.1 Snacks

3.1.2 Drinks

Everyone loves a good gin and tonic.

4. Advertising the Party

Obviously you need to let the people know that there’s actually a party happening, so just get to making a poster and send out an email.

4.1 Poster

Poster made by ki5lyy, ricutroll and Mark Kokotov

4.2 Department email

5. Bringing and Setting Up DJ Equipment

Helps when you have a friend who already owns the equipment.

6. Finding DJs

The Graphic Design department is packed full of them. No need to look far.

7. Opening the Bar

This one works in tandem with the third step. Get your ingredients ready and make the best and booziest drinks you can think of. Remember to price keeping in mind the fact that we’re all broke students.

8. Dimming the Lights

For the best experience acquire some LEDs

9. Opening the Doors to the Department

Just have fun
